A bleach bath is a gentle, diluted lightening cleanse that shifts unwanted pigment and colour build-up for a cleaner, more even canvas. It softens banding, brightens dull lengths, and prepares hair for refined toning or a colour change. The formula and timing are tailored to preserve condition and deliver a smooth, believable result.

What's Included

We design the service around your hair history and target shade.

  • In-person consultation to assess suitability and plan your colour route.
  • Allergy test if you are new to this service or it has been more than six months since your last one with us.
  • Strand and porosity checks where needed to predict lift and protect integrity.
  • Tailored bleach bath application to the areas that need correction.
  • Controlled processing, careful monitoring, and a thorough cleanse.
  • Toner or gloss to refine the shade and neutralise warmth, if required.
  • Hydration and strengthening care, plus a professional blow-dry finish.
  • Personal aftercare advice and a plan for next steps.

Who It's For

Best for clients with colour build-up, over-toned or over-dark results, banding, or dull mid-lengths and ends. It is also a smart first step when moving lighter or clearing the way for a new shade. If your hair is very fragile or heavily compromised, we may recommend strengthening treatments first or a staged correction plan. A bleach bath is not a substitute for a full bleach when significant lift is required from dark to blonde.

Duration & Appointment Timing

Allow around 75 minutes for the service. Timing can vary with hair length, density, and colour history. Your consultation sets accurate timings and confirms the approach. For bigger changes, the bleach bath may be one step within a multi-appointment colour correction.

Aftercare & Maintenance

Keep hair hydrated with a moisturising shampoo and conditioner, plus a weekly mask. Use heat protection and minimise high-heat styling for the first few days. A toner or gloss helps maintain a refined shade; expect to refresh this as needed to keep brassiness at bay. Avoid chlorine and harsh clarifiers in the first week, and follow the personalised home care we recommend to protect strength and shine.

Would 100% recommend. First time dying my hair in Oxford so was a bit apprehensive at the start, but Sylvain was incredibly professional and passionate about his craft which was very reassuring. He was a keen listener and had great stylistic ideas. Additionally, everyone at the salon was warm and welcoming. The bleaching and colouring took an entire afternoon but it did not feel like it at all — really appreciated the staff asking whether I’d like a coffee or a tea and making an effort to improve customers’ experience. Am very happy with the colour and the end result. Would be very happy to come back.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a bleach bath and how is it different from a full bleach?
A bleach bath uses diluted lightener to gently lift unwanted pigment and remove build-up, usually on mid-lengths and ends. It refines tone and preps hair for new colour, rather than delivering dramatic lift from dark to light.
How much lift can I expect?
Results vary with your hair and colour history, but expect a subtle to moderate shift, often around half to two levels. We confirm likely outcomes after a strand test and consultation.
Will a bleach bath damage my hair?
It is gentler than standard lightening, but it is still a chemical process. We assess condition, tailor the formula and timing, and pair it with care to maintain strength, shine and manageability.
Can it remove box dye or vivid colours?
It can break down many box dyes and soften some vivids, though certain direct dyes may stain. A strand test guides whether one session is enough or if alternative steps are required.
Do I need a consultation and allergy test?
Yes. An in-person consultation and allergy test are required unless you have had this exact service with us in the last six months, ensuring suitability and safety.
